Virtual Hearst Haiku: Community Poetry Illustrated

In honor of National Poetry Month and in response to the unique and challenging times we are in, we are inviting you to be a part of a new community-created virtual exhibition. We hope you’ll join in, share with us – your friends and neighbors – how you’re feeling, what you’re experiencing, your hopes, your fears, your current joys, your new discoveries…
…by writing a haiku! While not simple, a haiku is short and can be quick to write.
Don’t feel like writing? Maybe one of the haiku submitted will inspire you to illustrate? A line drawing? A collage? A quick sketch or a painting? A collection of found objects? Send us a picture. Make sure to tell us which haiku you illustrated and we’ll share both together.

It’s easy to share with us:

Email us your haiku at
Include your name, age, and city.
Want to be anonymous? That’s great! We’d still like to list your city, if you don’t mind sharing. That’s it! We’ll take it from there. Send the same info for illustrations, just make sure to tell us which haiku you’ve illustrated.

Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram to see your haiku, and neighbors’ creations – whether written or visual. We’re looking forward to seeing what you all create, and we are really looking forward to seeing all of your lovely faces at the Hearst soon!
