EMPTY BOWLS Work Days at the Hearst Center
Work Days: February 18, March 4 and March 18, 1-4 p.m.
Create a bowl for the North East Iowa Food Bank's Empty Bowls benefit. Come to the Hearst Center anytime during the scheduled walk-in work days to give back and make a bowl to be donated to the North East Iowa Food Bank. Hearst Center instructors adn volunteers will be on-site to help participants of all ages creat their bowls.These work days are free and open to the public.

Make Your Own Rug
Sundays: April 8, 15, 22

Sign up for workshop to make your own 3 foot rag rug! Use recycled fabric to create something that is both functional and a piece of art! The first and last session will be at the Hearst Center to sew fabric & finish the rug, while the second session will be at the artist’s home to use his antique loom.
Time: 1pm:-3:45pm

Dynamic Drawing
Alternating Tuesdays: March 20, April 3 & 17
This is not your ordinary drawing class! Participants will create a large scale abstract charcoal drawing using geometric designs and alternative materials. Experiment with visual composition from a new perspective and learn gestural drawing techniques!
Time: 10am-12pm

Expressive Writing through Healing with Mary Potter Kenyon
Thursday, March 22 at 7 PM
Author Mary Potter Kenyon, UNI graduate and certified grief counselor, will conduct an Expressive Writing for Healing workshop, demonstrating the effectiveness of utilizing writing as a form of therapy. The workshop gives an overview of research behind the health benefits of journaling that apply to everyone, not just writers. Whether you’re looking for a tool to work through a difficult time, or desire publication of your expressive pieces, this workshop will jumpstart your own expressive writing.

Journals for use in the workshop will be available at the Hearst giftshop. This workshop is free and open to the public.

Independent study includes access to clay studio, firing, and use of glazes. Clay must be purchased (in addition to the pass) from the Hearst Center at $25/25lbs. Open studio time is available when the studio is not being used for scheduled classes.
